Northvale Quality Assurance
Meeting the Metrology Needs of Laser Optics and Inrad, two PPGI companies

Quality, of course, is important to everyone. Metrology serves as a way of quantifying the parameters of a part and verifying quality.

As a manufacturer of fine optics, responsibility for testing a component or assembly to specific criteria lies with us. We take this responsibility seriously, starting from the beginning of the quotation process where specifications are studied from both manufacturing and metrology viewpoints. The goal of this process is a high-quality component or assembly that meets or exceeds all specifications at the final inspection step.

Staffed by optic professionals, our Quality Assurance department uses a variety of
metrology tools to measure performance of Laser Optics manufactured components and assemblies. Frequently, these tools permit in-process testing. Our inspection system is in accordance with MIL-I-45208.

Metrology tools used at Laser Optics, summarized in the table below, allow us to verify our production processes and maintain the high level of quality associated with our name. As shown in the table, Laser Optics uses many different instruments that have been acquired over a lengthy period of time. We firmly believe that there are no quick fixes to providing quality optics whether in equipment or in experienced and well-trained manufacturing professionals. The accuracy listed in the table is typical.

When deemed appropriate, qualified outside vendors are used to augment our inspection capabilities.

Metrology is a core competency at Laser Optics and an essential element of our
manufacturing philosophy. Areas of expertise extend to the routine verification of
mechanical dimensions, inspection of surfaces, environmental durability, spectral
characterization, and x-ray and laser tests of crystalline optics.
